Self-employed Mom
Hi there! I’m Melanie, a work at home, self-employed Mom to two boys. I have the added stress of being divorced and homeschooling, but even without that, juggling self-employment and parenting is hard work. It requires discipline, dedication, and a generous dash of craziness.
An increasing number of women are leaving the work force and going home. Part of it is due to the struggling economy. Jobs are disappearing, but that does not negate the need for two incomes to survive. Self-employment and work at home business is booming.
So, it’s doable. It’s sometimes necessary. Can anyone do it? Is it easy?
As I sit here in the corner of my living room, typing away on this new blog of mine, my kids are watching a cartoon in the next room. In three minutes, they will have to turn off the TV and get started on school work. And I have to move on to my business email, and then get busy writing articles and checking my websites and other blogs.
Anyone can be self-employed and a Mom at the same time. Is it easy? Well, it gets easier as time goes on.
The real question I would ask any woman considering coming home to work is, “Will it be worth it?” I can unequivicably state, “Yes.” Raising my children myself is worth it. Never missing a milestone is worth it. Not having to pay for gas to commute is SO worth it. Working in my PJs sometimes is worth it. Taking an hour off whenever I want and playing with my kids is worth it.
I’m grateful I have the chance to be a self-employed Mom. I hope to be able to help others achieve that goal as well.
